Forefathers - Chapter 3

F 3.36

Adelaide was crying when Reverend Wilson found her, muttering to herself that she and Nicholas would never have a place call home again.

"Please don’t cry Mrs Le Grande," he whispered as Adelaide looked up to see who had joined her, "I have spoken to the master, and he is willing to allow you more time with your son away from here if you would be happy to help at the church’s Sunday School for an hour each week."

Drying her eyes, Adelaide looked at Reverend Wilson with a slightly puzzled smile on her face.

"Let me tell you what we have discussed," he said in response, gently guiding Adelaide back towards the workhouse door.

F 3.37

Adelaide and the Reverend, who insisted on being called Henry, chatted for over an hour. In that time they discovered that they had much in common, as Henry was also the son of an army officer who had been posted to India (although he had been born a few months after his parents arrived back in England).

"So Mrs Le Grande, would you be willing to help with the Sunday School? I’m afraid the wages won’t be very high, but it will allow you and your son to be together for a couple of hours away from here. And of course you are more than welcome to take lunch at the rectory if you would like."

Adelaide smiled.

"I will help you on condition that you call me Adelaide," she replied.

F 3.38

Over the following six months Adelaide’s health improved, and she finally began feel more like her old self. Of course she would still have bad dreams and days when she missed William more than she could bare, but helping Henry and spending more time with Nicholas gave her something to look forward to when the dark clouds began to threaten her.

F 3.39

Adelaide’s relationship with Henry also grew over time, and the following spring they were engaged. Luckily Nicholas and Henry adored one another, and the latter was very keen for Adelaide to ensure that she spoke to Nicholas about William every day so that he would know who was his real father.

F 3.40

Eventually Adelaide and Henry were married, and although they had no children together they doted on Nicholas and encouraged his artistic talent - something he had inherited from his Le Grande ancestors.

  2. Hi. I’m not sure if my last comment came thourgh so I will try again.

I’m loving this legarcy so far I think it’s a cool idea to make a legarcy that goes though different eras.

    Keep Simming.

    See ya.

  3. Thanks Pandora - the next chapter is slow going at the moment as I have a main character at university and I’d forgotten how long it takes to get them to finish their studies! With three of my Royal Kingdom heirs at college as well … :-D I’m glad you’re enjoying the story, and fingers crossed Chapter 4 will be ready soon.

    Happy Simming!
