Forefathers - Chapter 3
At the age of twenty five Nicholas moved out of the rectory. On leaving school he had joined the local newspaper, the Kent Town Gazette, as a junior in the editor’s office, and eventually got the chance to write short articles. As he gained more experience he was offered a regular column in the arts section, and would also write occasionally for the society pages.
In addition to writing for the newspaper he also wrote articles for an antiques magazine, an opportunity that arose from his courtship of Anastasia Beresford, daughter of an antiques and fine arts dealer.
Like Nicholas, Anastasia was an only child. Her parents had married late in life, and sadly her mother was unable to conceive again after difficulties during Anastasia’s birth. Her father, Philip, had inherited the family’s antiques business on his father’s death some twenty years earlier, and had built up a rather large clientele. As the business grew so did Philip’s wealth, and on Anastasia’s tenth birthday the family moved to their present home, Blackstone Court.
Philip had been a childhood friend of Nicholas’ father, but the two had lost touch when Philip went to university. Therefore he had been very happy when his daughter introduced his old friend’s son as her suitor.
With the blessing of both sets of parents Nicholas and Anastasia were engaged at Nicholas’s new home, Hawthorn Lodge, in the spring of 1868. Happiest of all was Adelaide, Nicholas’ mother, who all those years ago had feared that she would never see her son grow to adulthood. Thanks to Agnes Phillips and Henry Wilson she had regained the will to carry on, and now looked forward to her son’s marriage and the prospect of grandchildren. Slowly and steadily the Le Grande family was beginning to rebuild it’s wealth and reputation …..
Thank you for reading this third chapter! In the next chapter we will follow the family throughout the remainder of the nineteenth century and into the twentieth. I would also like to thank those at The Sims 2 Writer’s Hangout who have commented on the series so far and offered advice.

Thanks Pandora - the next chapter is slow going at the moment as I have a main character at university and I’d forgotten how long it takes to get them to finish their studies! With three of my Royal Kingdom heirs at college as well …
I’m glad you’re enjoying the story, and fingers crossed Chapter 4 will be ready soon.
Happy Simming!
