Chapter 2

Carolyn stood in her sister’s bedroom, looking for any sign that the last week had been a nightmare and that she would hear Eve’s voice calling her name as she arrived home from work. A pile of clothing lay on the floor, just as Eve had always left things laying around when she was in a hurry. She’d always been the same, perpetually rushing around but too lazy to put her clothes in the laundry basket. It drove Carolyn mad.

“Carolyn, dinner’s ready!” a voice called, interrupting her thoughts.

She’d tidy up after dinner, making sure that she pushed the food around her plate to form tight little mounds, eating a few mouthfuls just to satisfy him. Adam; her best friend and torturer. He’d rushed to her side without a moment’s hesitation, comforting her as the realisation of Eve’s death sank in; forcing her to go home and rest after she’d collapsed at work. He was a bully with the face of an angel.

“It’s only salad I’m afraid, but I’ll get the shopping on my way home tomorrow.”

“Don’t go to any trouble,” Carolyn sighed, sitting down as she contemplated the mountain of food on her plate.

“It’s no trouble at all!” Adam replied cheerfully. “I said I’d stay with you for a couple of days, so we’ll need a few extras.”

Carolyn didn’t say any more, and Adam was too busy eating to try and coax something resembling a pleasant conversation from her. Five minutes later she was scraping the remains of her dinner into the bin. She loaded the dishwasher before making her way to the sitting room. Time for another show.

She was reading a book, Adam assumed, when he joined her. He’d always wondered how silence could be deafening, and now he was experiencing it for himself. The doctor told him that things would be difficult at first, but he shouldn’t worry if Carolyn ignored him. Of course it did worry him, especially when he could hear her crying in the early hours of the morning.

“I’m going to bed now,” Carolyn announced, leaving her book on the coffee table.

“Okay, see you in the morning,” Adam replied.

He didn’t look up as she left the room. If he had, he would have seen that the tears were already falling.

  1. Woo! Chapter two! I am so slow. :P But, I did love the ‘Dracula groupie’ comment, hehe. Looks like Loki wants to learn the hard way. So be it.

Silly men. They should know better… it’s always the hot women in the clubs or the hot men. They’ve got fangs, dang it! Stop thinking with your nether regions!

I guess they should get some thanks–the vampires, that is–for trimming down the stupidity amongst the population.

Tanya: LOL, and now Chapter 3 is ready! :D I’m glad you liked the ‘Dracula groupie’ comment as I want Loki to have a sense of humour of some kind (even if he’s a sarcastic so and so in the process). And yes, the men are always thinking with the other parts of their anatomy rather than what’s between their ears - they never learn do they? The vampires could be very busy ….

  2. Hi, its me again, i left a comment in the first chapter, remember? i’m way too late, i didn’t have time to checkout your site lately. I love the ‘vampire groupie’ word you use, very funny! Why these vampire started terrorising this town, i wonder.

Tanya: Hi again Karen, thanks for reading and and commenting :) I couldn’t use Loki Beaker without keeping some of the characteristics that Maxis gave him! He’s much nicer than he used to be, so I thought he should have a dry sense of humour as a trade off for not being mean and argumentative :D Why the vampires chose that town (Chronicle City to be exact) will slowly be revealed ….
