Warning: Vampires, simulated blood
Loki and Rebecca had arranged to meet their mysterious visitor, Matthias Bergman, at his home, together with his brother and sister. The house was not at all what Loki had been expecting. Dating from the 1930’s, it was light and airy with modern furnishings and a few old – and extremely valuable – paintings. It couldn’t have been further from the dark and gloomy abode that Loki had been prepared for, and in that respect it had helped to calm his last minute worries that perhaps the meeting should have taken place back at headquarters.
Matthias appeared to be the eldest of the siblings, followed by his brother Hans then his sister Hilde. All three had the sharp, pointed teeth that Matthias had displayed on their first meeting.
“Tell me detective, what prompted your apparent change of heart regarding my brother’s offer?” Hans asked, fixing Loki with his bright blue eyes.
“It’s not exactly a change of heart,” Loki replied, “more of an interest in an alternate theory.”
“In other words the good detectives have no other explanation for the murders, so we’re a last resort,” Matthias cut in, winking at Rebecca.
“Play nicely boys,” Hilde quipped, glaring at her eldest brother but trying not to laugh. “I must apologise for Matthias. He means well, but his unusual sense of humour has never been one of his endearing qualities.”
Loki shifted uncomfortably on the sofa before clearing his throat.
“I’m used to evasive witnesses Miss Bergman, as well as informants who are reluctant to take their role seriously. As long as Santa Claus isn’t driving the getaway car I’m prepared to hear your theory.”
“Hmmm, I would have thought you too old to still believe in Santa!” Matthias laughed. “The Easter Bunny is a close personal friend of ours, and I’m sure he would have told me if Santa was really alive and kicking ….”
“Matthias ….” Hilde scolded, “I’d better tell the story of our prime suspects, otherwise Detective Beaker will charge us with wasting police time.”
Ahhh, that’s quite the explanation! I was wondering about the whole ‘walking in the light thing’. It’s interesting that you’ve tied them to mythology.
Sorry this is so late… with the fiance around, I’m usually playing a game with him or unable to sit and read without him poking me, LOL.
Tanya: Thanks Mao - Loki gave me idea for the mythological explanation, seeing as he’s named after a Norse god (and of course Circe is named after a character from Greek mythology; I believe she turned people into animals - possibly some of Jason’s Argonauts?).

Now, I understand. The Bergmans is vampire hunter and the three siblings is the evil vampire! Great update!
Tanya: That’s right - the Maxwell siblings are evil vampires, and the Bergmans (also siblings) are good vampires who also happen to be vampire hunters. Glad you’re enjoying the story!
